The breath gauge decreases while underwater
Touching seaweed causes entanglement and reduces the breath gauge
The number of shells collected before the breath gauge reaches zero is recorded as the high score
When stuck on a rock, ascend to free yourself

Descend: Automatically descends when not ascending
Speed up descent: RT button
